VTT AND ROCKLEY PHOTONICS PARTNERSHIP
In collaboration with VTT, Rockley photonics has been developing sensors for wearable devices using VTT's thick (>1um) silicon platform. After 8 years of collaboration they give an overview on how they managed and further plan to push cost-efficient sensor products to the (mainly wearable) market.
VTT announces the MPW schedule for 2022 in the Open-Access 3-μm SOI Waveguide Platform. This platform enables low propagation losses (~0.1dB/cm), low polarisation sensitivity and single-mode operation from 1.2um till 3um wavelength range, and even supports active components including Ge-PDs.
The Canadian SiEPIC and European ePIXfab have entered a partnership to jointly pursue the mission of promoting silicon photonics through their activitivies.
We look forward to collaborate on advancing the field of silicon photonics. Take a look at our upcoming events and trainings! Such as a follow-up on the popular joint workshop on laser integration.
Chromosol has developed a platform consisting of a very efficient erbium amplifier (effective absorption is increased by >10000) by using a 2-component organic which is co-evaporated onto a silicon PIC. This enables efficient fully integrated optical amplifiers on an SOI chip.
Chromosol is selling its IP (granted patents and know-how) to interested parties. See the link below for more information.

ePIXfab silicon photonics summer school
20 - 24 june
ePIXfab is organizing its 7th silicon photonics summer school at the Centre for Nanosciences and Nanotechnologies (C2N) of Université Paris-Saclay on June 20-24. The summer school will feature lectures on fundamentals in silicon photonics science and technology, and its emerging applications. The latest trends, hot topics and recent/upcoming technological developments will be discussed and social events will be organized to share, learn and discuss with peers and experts.
ECIO focuses on leading edge research on integrated optics, optoelectronics and nano-photonics, gathering experts from academia and industry presenting their latest scientific results as well as showcasing products and services. The application scope is broad, ranging from tele- and data-communications, optical interconnects and (bio) optical sensing applications to more disruptive areas as quantum computing and mid-IR photonics.
The fifth edition of the Photonic Integration Week was held at the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) last March. Public institutions, research centers, investors and manufacturers in the field of integrated photonics have reunited to discuss the latest advancements and trends. Among other hot topics, the disruptive innovation in the automotive sector as been a central discussion point, along with a dialogue on the necessity of institutional support for further development.
Spanish foundries ecosystem to exhibit at European Conference of Integrated Optics (ECIO), 4-6 May 2022 in Milan (Italy): The main photonic integration foundry players in Spain will Exhibit at ECIO 2022. Come by the booth to meet our front-end capabilities in silicon nitride photonics at IMB-CNM, the coming III-V semiconductor foundry SPARC, and the back-end processing for hybrid PICs at UPVfab.
See you there!
